  • National Mathematics Day is observed on22 December every year to honor the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan. 
  • This day recognizes the contribution of mathematician Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan to the analytical theory of numbers and worked on elliptic functions, continued fractions, and infinite series. Various programmes seminar, workshop, symposium, lecture are organized at schools, colleges and universities.
  • The main objective is to provide a forum to the students to pursue their natural curiosity and stimulate their interest in mathematics, developing in students the habit and skills to use mathematics, to remove maths phobia’ from the minds of the students and to improve teaching methodology of mathematics at schools. 
  • The Union Government of India by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 26th February 2012 at Madras University, declared to celebrate 22nd December, as the National Mathematics Day.
