- On 8th January 2019, Parshottam Rupala Minister of State for Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare presented the details of funds released during the year 2018-19 for North Eastern states under the National Bamboo Mission.
- Financial assistance to North Eastern States is provided in the ratio of 90:10 between Central & State Government.
- Restructured National Bamboo Mission is a centrally sponsored scheme approved on 25th April, 2018 for implementation till the end of 14th Finance Commission i.e. 2019-20.It aims to ensure holistic development of the bamboo sector by addressing complete value chain and establishing effective linkage of producers (farmers) with industry.
- The Mission envisages on adopting area-based, regionally differentiated strategy and to increase the area under bamboo cultivation and marketing. Under the Mission, steps have been taken to increase the availability of quality planting material by supporting the setting up of new nurseries and strengthening of existing ones.
- A total of Rs.1290 crore (with Rs. 950 crore as Central’s share) is sanctioned for implementation of the Mission. Over one lakh farmers would be directly benefitted under this Mission.
- 17 States have so far been covered under the Mission and an amount of Rs.111.05 crore has been released (till 31 January 2018) based on the annual action plans.
- For North Eastern States, total allocated amount is Rs 5225.71 lakhs which is as follows:
Assam – 500 lakhs Rs.
Arunachal Pradesh – 1127.43 lakhs Rs.
Manipur – 450.00 lakhs Rs.
Mizoram – 950.00 lakhs Rs;.
Nagaland – 623.83 lakhs Rs.
Sikkim – 344.45 lakhs Rs.
Tripura – 1230.00 lakhs Rs.
