  • ‘Bhasha Sangam’ a Celebration of Linguistic Diversity which marks the appreciation of the unique symphony of languages of our country is initiated by The Department of School Education & Literacy, from 20th November to 21st December.
  • Bhasha Sangam provides an opportunity of multilingual exposure of Indian Languages to students of Schools and educational institutions (School Boards, Directorates of School Education, etc.) with the objective to familiarize every child to dialogue and understand simple usage of all 22 languages coming under Schedule VIII Indian Constitution.
  • The Bhasha Sangam is an initiative under the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Mission which aims to increase awareness among students about the unique cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity of our country. It will be done to promote national integration by enhancing lingual tolerance.
  • This scheme has been supported by its wider acceptance from states and Union Territories in a positive way. Since Education comes in Concurrent List allowing states to decide the medium of instruction in schools.
  • The National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005 stated that the ‘Three Language Formula’ would tackle the linguistic problems as under this the first language studied must be the mother tongue or a regional language.In non Hindi – speaking States, children learn Hindi. In the case of Hindi speaking States, children learn a language not spoken in their area. This may include study of Sanskrit as a modern language in addition.
