  • On 6 September, 2018 India and France signed ‘Mobilise Your City’ (MYC) agreement in New Delhi to support three Indian cities (Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad) in their efforts to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.
  • The MYC agreement was signed in presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Alexander Ziegler, Ambassador of France in India.

What is Mobilise Your City?

  • Mobilise Your city is a part of International Initiative that supports local governments in developing countries to plan sustainable urban mobility in order to develop more inclusive, livable and economically efficient cities and reduce GHG emissions.
  • It is supported by French and German Government and was launched at 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) meeting in December 2015.
  • Based on a proposal made by AFD in 2015, the European Union has agreed to provide funds of Euro 3.5 million to India for specific investments and technical assistance.

Indian Perspective:

  • This initiative will assist India at the national level to improve their sustainable transport policy and reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transport.
  • This initiative will enlighten the path for retaining the environment quality and promotes eco-green development.
  • Three Indian cities Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad were chosen on a pilot basis in order to support their efforts to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transport by implementing urban mobility plans at the local level.

The Proposed Assistances:

  • Supporting the planning and implementation of sustainable urban transport projects.
  • Supporting the institutional capacity for regulating, steering and planning urban mobility.
  • Familiarizing with best practices implemented in cities of other countries.
