  • On 28 July 2016 Lokapal and Lokyuktas (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has been passed by Rajya Sabha.
  • The Lok Sabha on 27 July 2016 passed the Lokpal and Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
  • The bill amends section 44 of the 2013 Act and says that every public servant shall make a declaration of his assets and liabilities in such form and manner as may be prescribed.
  • According to present bill every public servant shall make declaration of his assets and liabilities in the manner as provided by or under this Act within a period of thirty days from the date on which he makes and subscribes an oath or affirmation to enter upon his office, furnish to the competent authority.
  • In addition to that every public servant shall file declaration, information and annual returns pertaining to his assets and liabilities as well as of his spouse and dependent children as on March 31 on or before July 31 of that year.
  • It also includes that the competent authority in respect of each Ministry or Department shall ensure that all such statements are published on the website of such Ministry or Department by 31st August of that year.
  • The form and manner of declaration of assets and liabilities by public servants will be decided by Union Government.
