  • On December 11, 2015 the scientists of ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB) succeed to produce a cloned calf ‘HISAR GOURAV’.
  • Calf born through normal delivery.
  • This cloned buffalo calf is distinct from the earlier clones produced in India by ICAR-NDRI as this is produced from cells of ventral side of tail of superior buffalo bull, this part is least exposed to sunlight and may have less mutation rate, and can  be good choice for isolation of donor cells to produce healthy clones.
  • This achievement has been made under the project entitled, Cloning for conservation and multiplication of superior buffalo germplasm.
  • With this achievement CIRB becomes world’s third and India’s second institute to produce cloned buffalo.
  • Progeny Testing Bull Farm, Hisar of State Government, Haryana was transferred to Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in the year 1985, and was established as Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB) at Hisar.
  • In 1990, with the birth of “Pratham”, the first IVF buffalo calf of the world, NDRI (National Dairy Research Institute) reached a significant milestone.
