  • On September 23, 2017, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport became the first airport in the country, to launch the wheelchair lift service to benefit senior citizens and the physically challenged. .
  • This service has been started under ‘Sugamya Bharat Mission’.
  • On December 3, 2015, on the occasion of International Day of Disabled, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched this campaign.
  • This campaign has been divided into three areas – creating environment, transport facilitation and information and communication technology (ICI) ecosystem.
  • The purpose of the transport facilitator is to make all international airports fully accessible as soon as possible, as well as the domestic airports domestic airports till March 2018.
  • Under this, amenities like ramps, accessible toilets, Braille lifts and auditory signs are being provided at the airports.
  • About 40 thousand passenger travels daily at Hyderabad Airport, in which about 100 passengers are on wheelchairs.
  • This is a part of the prime’ signature program of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) ‘Passenger is Prime which started in August, 2017.
