  • On 19th December 2018, ISRO’s 39th communication satellite GSAT-7A was successfully launched and put in orbit by GSLV-F11 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • GSAT-7A with a lift-off mass of 2250 kg is a geostationary satellite carrying communication transponders in Ku-band. The Satellite is built to provide communication capability to the users over the Indian region. It has a mission life of eight years.
  • GSLV – F11 is ISRO’s fourth generation launch vehicle with three stages. GSLV-F11 is the 13th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) and its 7th flight with indigenous Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS).
  • This is the first satellite primarily built for Indian Air Force. It is a military communication satellite meant to augment the communication capacity of Air Force. It is expected to link altogether all ground-based radars, airbases and airborne early warning and control aircraft for surveillance, maintain air superiority etc. boosting IAF`s network centric warfare capabilities.
