Akhilesh Yadav launches National Food Security Act in UP

Question: On March 1, 2016 Uttar Pradesh government has implemented the Food Security Act – 2013 in the state. Under this Act five kg food grain, including wheat at a rate of Rs 2 per kg and rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg, would be provided to every beneficiary. This will include-
(a) 3 Kg Wheat and 2 Kg Rice
(b) 4 Kg Wheat and 1 Kg Rice
(c) 1 Kg Wheat and 1 Kg Rice
(d) 2 Kg Wheat and 3 Kg Rice

  • This should be known that food security act is already applicable in 28 districts of the state since January 1, 2016 now it has been extended to the entire state from, from March 1, 2016.
  • It will benefit 79.56 per cent of rural households and 64 percent of urban households
  • It may be highlighted that before implementation of the scheme, BPL beneficiaries were getting wheat at Rs five a kg and rice at Rs 7 per kg and APL card holders were getting wheat at Rs 7 per kg. In the past, under the BPL Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
  • In order to make the targeted delivery system (1997) more effective, in December 2000 Antyodaya Anna Yojana was started.
