  • A year-long state of emergency was declared in Sudan by President Omar al-Bashir on February 22, dissolving his cabinet and local governments throughout the country.
  • He called on Sudan’s parliament to postpone constitutional amendments that would allow him to run for another term in a presidential election in 2020.
  • Since December 2018, anti-governments protests is being witnessed in various areas of Sudan, including the capital Khartoum, over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
  • It is worth to note that Omar al-Bashir was serving as President of the Republic of the Sudan since 1989.
