- On April 12th, 2018, the Central Government constituted a 12-member committee to review the enforcement of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) provisions under the Companies Act and recommend a similar approach for their enforcement.
- Regional Director (Western Region) Manmohan Juneja will preside over this committee.
- While Deputy Director (CSR) Seema Rath will be the convenor of the Committee.
- Other members of the committee include Joint Director (Law) Sanjay Shore and Joint Director (Policy) N.K. Dua.
- Representatives of top bodies of chartered accountants, cost accountants and company secretaries will also be part of this committee.
- Apart from this, there will be two sub-committees – legal and technical, which will examine various aspects of compliance with CSR provisions.
- It is known that under the Companies Act, 2013, the profit making institutions in specified categories will have to spend at least 2 percent of their 3 year annual average profit for CSR activities.
- This rule came into effect on April 1st, 2014.
