• On 29 October 2015, The ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) has announced to abandon its three decades-long one-child policy in this regard an official communique has been issued at the end of party’s 4 day plenary session .
• With this decision China has allowed all citizens couples to have two babies.
• The one-child policy was introduced in 1979 in China. The decision was taken to curb the rapid population growth. Officially it began in 1980.
• Under this family planning policy families could have two children if their first-born is a daughter.
• In rural areas, in families where both parents are the only children can have an extra child.
• The one-child policy was further loosened in November 2013 after that couples are allowed to have two children if one of them is an only child.
• Now, Decision to abandon the one child policy is taken to overcome demographics problem, especially of gender and age ratio that the country is facing.
