  • On 12-18 November 2018, the first ever bilateral naval exercise ‘Samudra Shakti ‘was organized between the navy of India and Indonesia at the port of Surabaya, Indonesia.
  • The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen bilateral relations, expand maritime cooperation, enhance interoperability and exchange best practices.
  • The Harbour Phase of this exercise was conducted between 12-15 November while Sea Phase was organized on 16-18 November 2018.





  • The bilateral exercise will include operations such as Joint manoeuvres, Helicopter operations, Surface warfare exercise, ASW exercise and Anti Piracy exercises.
  • From the Indian side INS Rana of the Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam under the Eastern Naval Command participated in the joint naval exercise.
  • INSRana is a Rajput-class Soviet Kashin-class guided missile destroyer  commissioned in Indian Navy on 28th June 1982.
