  • Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Civil Aviation has launched the online portal Digital Sky Portal on December 1st, 2018.
  • Three fly zones have been identified, namely: green zone (requires intimation only), yellow zone (permission required) and red zone (is no fly zone).
  • Now onwards Nano drone which weighs less or equal to 250 grams will not require any registration or license and they fly legally.
  • For Micro and above categories drone, operators and pilots will have to register on the digital sky portal, following which a unique identification number (UIN) or Unmanned Aircraft operator’s Permit (UPOP) will be issued by DGCA. The fee for a fresh UIN is rupees 1000, and rupees 25,000 for fresh UPOP.
  • India had announced the release of its Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) to enable safe flying of RPAS (Remotely piloted aerial systems) in India.
  • Task-force for the recommendation of Drone Policy 2.0 is being constituted. DRONE 2.0 frameworks for RPAS are expected to include regulatory architecture for autonomous flying, delivery via drones and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights.
