  • On 12th February 2019, Union Minister Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad informed that Union Cabinet approved the proposal of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I & B) for introducing the Cinematograph Amendment Bill, 2019 to amend to the Cinematograph Act, 1952.The Bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha.
  • According to Cinematograph Amendment Bill, 2019 the government has proposed to make Film Piracy Offences punishable with imprisonment up to 3 years or with a fine which may extend up to Rs.10 Lakhs, or with both.   
  • This Bill seeks to amend provisions of Cinematograph Act, 1952 in order to tackle film piracyby including penal provisions for unauthorized camcording and duplication of films.
