  • On January 27th, 2018, President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, launched the Pulse Polio programme for 2018 by administering polio drops to children less than five years old, at the Rahstrapati Bhawan
  • Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda and Ministers of State (Health) Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Smt. Anupriya Patel were present at the occasion.
  • More than 17 crore children of less than five years across the country will be given polio drops as part of the drive of Government of India to sustain polio eradication from the country.
  • This program has been started on the eve of National Immunization Day (January 28).
  • India has started the Pulse Polio Vaccination Program in 1995 as a result of the World Health Organization (WHO) global polio eradication efforts.
  • Under this program, two doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) are given in the month of December and January every year till the end of polio to all children under the age of 5 years of age.
