  • On May 23rd, 2018, the leader of Janata Dal (S) HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka.
  • Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala gave him oath of office and secrecy.
  • At the same time, state Congress President and Dalit leader Dr G. Parmeshwaran took oath as deputy chief minister.
  • It is noteworthy that BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa had resigned from the post before the floor test on May 19, 2018.

  • The Supreme Court had ordered the governor to make a floor test on May 19, 2018 by reducing the15 days given to Yeddyurappa to prove the majority in the assembly.
