- On November 14th, 2017, The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind gave away the National Child Awards 2017 on the occasion of Children’s Day in New Delhi.
- This year, the President honoured 16 children in the category of The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement, out of which one child was given a gold medal and 15 children were given silver medals.
- The National Award for Child Welfare was conferred on 3 individuals and 5 institutions. The Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award was conferred on 3 individuals.
- Master Akash Manoj from Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu got Gold medal in the field of innovation.
- He has invented a device to detect silent heart attacks six hours prior to attack, that has the potential to save many lives.
About National Child Awards - Children in the age group of 5-18 years are eligible for the award.
- The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement that give recognition to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievements in the fields of innovation, scholastic achievements, sports, arts, culture, social service and music.
- The child with the most outstanding achievement is honoured with a cash prize of Rs.20, 000/-, a certificate/citation and a Gold Medal. Fifteen children are being honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, a certificate/citation and a Silver Medal each for this year.
- Since 2015, the gold and silver awardees are also given book voucher of Rs. 10,000/- and Rs.3, 000/- respectively.
