  • On December 2, 2017, ‘International Day for the Abolition of Slavery’ was observed all over the world.
  • It is notable that on December 2, 1949, the United Nations General Assembly accepted the United Nations Convention to end the exploitation of trafficking and prostitution of individuals.
  • It is to be known that the first ‘International Slavery Elimination Day’ was celebrated on December 2, 1986.
  • The aim of celebrating this day is to eradicate the forced recruitment of children for the use of enslaved forms of slavery like trafficking of persons, sexual exploitation, worst practices of child labor, forced marriage, brotherhood sanitation, and armed struggle.
  • It is worth mentioning that more than 150 million children worldwide are related to child labor. 1 child in every 10 children worldwide is child labor.
  • Approximately 40.3 million people are afflicted with modern slavery, in which 24.9 million people are suffering from forced labor and 15.4 million from forced marriages.
  • 5.4 out of every 1000 people in the world are suffering from modern slavery.
  • Out of the 4 victims of modern slavery includes one child.
  • In November 2016, the International Labor Organization (ILO) had implemented a new protocol to empower global efforts to end the bonded labor.
