  • On October 25th, 2017, Schedule for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat, 2017 has been issued by election commission.
  • The total number of Assembly Constituencies as determined by the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008 in the state are 182.
  • Out of these 13 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes.
  • The numbers of seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes is 27.
  • The election will be held in two phase.
  • Gazette Notification for Phase-I will be issued on 14.11.2017 and for Phase –II date will be 20.11.2017.
  • The date of polling for Phase-1 (89 Assembly Constituencies) is 09.12.2017, while date of Counting is 18.12.2017.

  • Following New Initiatives will be used in this election-
  • Use of VVPATs at Polling Stations: Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail will be used along with EVMs in all 50128 Polling Stations of 182 Assembly Constituencies of poll going state of Gujarat.
  • It is noteworthy that Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines are used during election process to verify that the vote polled by a voter goes to the correct candidate. VVPATs are a second line of verification particularly and are particularly useful in the time when allegations around Electronic Voting Machines’ tampering crop up.
  • E-Atlas: As a new innovation, GIS based planning, implementation and monitoring of various elections related activities in real time is being implemented in the State of Gujarat.
  • All Women Managed Polling Stations: Total 182 Women Managed Polling Stations will be setup for the entire state of Gujarat for the first time where the entire polling staff, including the police and security personnel, shall be Women.
  • Following New IT Applications will be Used in these election-
  • SAMADHAN: Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System
  • SUVIDHA: Single Window Permission System
  • SUGAM: Vehicle Management System
  • Webcasting/CCTVs at Polling Stations
  • Polling/Police Personnel Deployment System

  • Voter Centric Information Dissemination Initiatives
  • In addition to this, Electors who have been provided with Electors Photo Identity Cards shall be identified through EPIC.
  • Presently, the EPIC coverage in Gujarat is 99.99%.
  • The format of nomination paper (Forms 2A to 2E) has been partially amended.
  • The Commission has provided to the candidates an additional facility for online submission (e-filing) of their Affidavit.
  • During the entire election period starting from the date of announcement of election and ending with the date of declaration of results, the use of public address system or loudspeakers or any sound amplifier shall not be permitted at night between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.
