  • On 27 January 2016, the Transparency International issued 21st edition of Corruption Perception Index (CPI 2015).
  • The Index measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption in 168 countries and territories.
  • The marks were awarded on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
  • The index was topped by Denmark with a score of 91 that is referred to as the most honest country.
  • It is followed by Finland (Score-90), Sweden (Score-89) and New Zealand (Score-88) raked at second and third and fourth place respectively.
  • This year the two countries Netherlands (score-87) and Norway (score-87) jointly secured the fifth position.
  • North Korea and Somalia the worst performers (167th), scoring just 8 points each.
  • Afghanistan (Score 11), Sudan (score 12), South Sudan (score 15), Angola (score 15) and Libya (score 16) are ranked at 166th, 165th, 163th, 161th place respectively.
  • India with a score of 38 has been ranked 76th out of 168 nations in CPI-2015.
  • Last year (CPI2014) India with a score of 38 was ranked 85th out of 175 nations.
  • In CPI-2015 among India’s neighboring countries Bhutan ranked 27th (score -65), China and Sri Lanka are ranked 83 (Score -37), Pakistan 117th (score 30) Nepal 130th (score 27) and Bangladesh (score 25).
  • It may be mentioned that the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) has been released annually since 1995.
  • Overall, two-thirds of the 168 countries on the 2015 index scored below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean)showed that people working together can succeed in the battle against corruption
