  • United States (founding and current Member State) did not participate in the declaration.
  • Declaration “Scaling up the low carbon bio economy: an urgent and vital challenge” accepted at the ‘United Nations Climate Change Conference-CoP23’ organized in BONN, Germany.
  • Earlier, on 15th November 2017, this mandate was renewed for an additional year.
  • It is noteworthy that on November 16th, 2016, 20 countries including India launched ‘BIOFUTURE PLATFORM’ for sustainable biofuels.
  • The ultimate purpose of the Biofuture Platform is to help in the global fight against climate change, nurturing solutions in low carbon transport and the bio economy that can aid countries to reach their Nationally Determined Contribution targets (NDCs).
  • Twenty countries are the founding and current Member States of the Biofuture Platform: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Mozambique, the Netherlands, Paraguay, the Philippines, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay.
  • These countries represent 37% of the global economy and half of the global population.
