  • On April 23rd, 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for setting up Biomethenation Plant in Faridabad.
  • The plant will produce gas and compost from organic waste which will be used in cooking mid-day-meal and in parks.
  • The MoU with IOC was signed by the officials of Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, Indian Oil Corporation, Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), Ecogreen and Iskcon in the presence of Industries and Commerce Minister, Mr Vipul Goel.
  • It is a unique intiative of the State government and IOC towards making Faridabad a clean and smart city.
  • The project, which will be set up by IOC at a cost of Rs three crore through Corporate Social Responsibility fund, would be completed by March 2019.
  • Land for this project has been made available by HSVP.
  • The Biomethenation Plant would be handed over to Municipal Corporation, Faridabad after three years.
  • The plant will produce 18 cyclinder gas every day which will be supplied to Iskcon, the agency engaged in cooking mid-day-meal for 60,000 school children in Faridabad, free of cost.
  • In addition, the plant will also produce about 4 tonnes of compost per day from 5 tonnes organic waste. This compost will be supplied to HSVP for parks.
