  • Chittor has been chosen for the ‘Commendable Initiative Award’ for the city police’s initiative for improving road safety.
  • Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has won the Best Performer Award in the category of ‘no helmet-no petrol’.
  • Pune has won the Best Performer Award in the category of “automatic adjustment of signal timings based on traffic flows, pedestrian controlled signals and SMS based alerts to the citizens”.

  • On November 5th, 2017, “FIPSPHYSIOCON 2017”, Conference on Human Physiology is inaugurated at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), University of Delhi.
  • This is a three days conference is being organized from November 5th-7th.
  • The theme of the conference is “Integrating Physiological and Biomedical Science Approaches to Improve Performance, Health and Safety”.
  • The conference is being organized along with VII Congress of Federation of Indian Physiological Societies (FIPS) and XXIX Annual Conference of the Physiological Society of India (PSI).
  • Conference is being organised by Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Science (DIPAS) of DRDO.
  • The objective of the conference is to update the scientific community about most recent advances in human Physiology in extreme environments, Neuroscience, Yoga, Sport Physiology and translational research.

  • On 2 November, 2017, the ‘Global Gender Report-2017’ was released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
  • 144 countries have been listed in this gender gap index this year.
  • Iceland is at first place in the list. Its total score is 0.878.
  • In the list, Norway (score -0.830) second in the list, Finland (score -0.823) third, Rwanda (score -0.822) fourth and Sweden (score -0.816) has been placed at fifth.
  • This list has 5 countries in the lower order is – Yemen (144th place), Pakistan (143nd place), Syria (142nd), Chad (141st) and Iran, Islamic Republic (140th place).
  • This year’s edition of the Report benchmarks these countries on their progress towards gender parity on a scale from 0 (imparity) to 1 (parity) across four thematic dimensions-Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.
  • India has been placed 108th on the list with a score of 0.669. India was ranked 87th last year.

    (iii) Health and Survival -141th Place
    (iv) Political Empowerment- 15th place
