  • On November 24, 2017, the Union Home Ministry conducted the first multi-state Mega Mock Tsunami Exercise-017 on Tsunami preparation on the entire East coast of the country.
  • The exercise was conducted with corroboration of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS).
  • Simulation exercises were conducted simultaneously in 35 coastal districts across four States of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry along with the entire East Coast.
  • The purpose of this exercise is to assess and improve the early warning and response mechanism to mitigate the impact of a high-intensity tsunami.
  • This program is one of the programs organized on the occasion of Second World Tsunami Awareness Day celebrated on November 5, 2017.
  • Under this practice, the artificial landscape of Tsunami disaster was presented to evaluate preparation on Eastern Marine Coast.
