  • On October 11, 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Nanaji Deshmukh Phenomics Center’ developed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in Pusa, New Delhi.
  • This state-of-the-art, automated Phenomics Center is one of the public funding institutions in the world.
  • This center will also help in understanding the interaction between the genes and the environment in the field of crop improvement and management.
  • This center is equipped with high-tech controlled climate greenhouse, dynamic field conveyor system, automated weight lifting and irrigation stations, and various imaging sensor reflections by Scanalyzer 3D software.
  • With this help, the interaction between the genes and the environment will be understood as the next phase of expanding the boundaries of our knowledge in the area of crop improvement and management.

  • On October 10, 2017, in the important meeting of the Narmada Control Board, chaired by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan administrative approval was given for the construction of various projects of cost of Rs. 14,600 crore (estimated) in the Narmada Valley.
  • These approved projects include the proposed ambitious Narmada Kali Sindh Link Project for Malvanchal.
  • It is known that some time before, Chief Minister had announced the construction of this project for the Malvanchal.
  • This project will be built in two phases.
  • This project will irrigate 2 lakh hectares of agricultural land of 366 villages of Dewas, Shajapur, Sehore and Rajgarh districts.
  • Irrigation in 30 thousand hectares land will take place by another project Narmada Shipra Link Multi-purpose Project approved for Malvanchal in Dewas, Ujjain, Nagda, Maxi, Shajapur, Badia and Tarana areas.
  • Apart from this, the Narmada Control Board also approved the Morand and Ganjal Joint Irrigation Project. This will irrigate 52 thousand 205 hectares of land in Hoshangabad, Harda and Khandwa districts.
  • Micro Irrigation Projects of Nalwadi Udhvahan, Kollod Udhahan, Pati Udhvahan, Kodwar Udhahan, Pipri Udhvahan, Bhuralay Udhvahan, Pamkhedi Udhvahan.has also been approved by Narmada Control Board

  • On October 10, 2017; a conference on National Pension System (NPS) for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) was organized at India Habitat Center, New Delhi.
  • It was organized by the Pension Fund and Development Authority (PFRDA).
  • Its objective was to make the Central Public Sector Enterprises aware of the benefits and characteristics of the National Pension System and to provide solutions to their queries related to the National Pension System.
  • In this conference, the Public Enterprises Department has issued a notification ending the condition of term of retirement from minimum 15 years service and CPSE to obtain the benefit of the recommendation of the third pay revision committee.
  • In addition to this, Government has also amended the Income Tax Act providing for tax free migration of superannuation funds to NPS.
  • This provision will facilitate CPSE to implement NPS for its employees.
  • This provision will facilitate the CPSEs to implement NPS for their employees. The total employee strength in CPSEs stood at 12.91 lakh (excluding contract workers) in 2014-15.
  • The Conference saw an active participation of more than 55 CPSEs with around 150 participants.
  • Individuals can now subscribe to NPS upto the age of 65 years and can defer the purchase of annuity to three more years post retirement and defer lump-sum withdrawal in phased manner over a period of 10 years.
